Salt Pans Vietnam

Daily I season my meals with it

But, when food comes in packages, it’s easy to be ignorant and disconnected from its source.

These ladies start at 4am to gather salt from the pans before the intensity of the sun makes it unbearable.

Traditional methods are still used in Vietnam and it’s hard physical work.

I’m not sure where the salt we get in New Zealand actually comes from, or the methods used to collect it …

… but this trip taught me not to take food for granted and to appreciate the human hands behind it.

My blog post about rice
